Beauvent

Beauvent is a hill village in the uplands of Verdaine, named for the steady winds that cross its ridges. Where neighboring towns keep to the river valleys and its vineyards, Beauvent sits high and open, its slopes given to terraced fields of grain and other staples. Windmills crown the hilltops, their sails turning nearly year round, and the village lives by bread and flour. Carts of grain and milled flour move down the valley roads to Rosemont, Lumiere, and beyond.

At a Glance

Daily life in Beauvent follows the grain. Spring is for sowing the terraced slopes, summer for tending the fields under the constant wind, and late summer for the harvest, when every hand turns to the reaping and the mills run day and night. Winter is quiet, the sails lashed still, the village living on what the year put by.

  • Emile Roche. Beauvent’s cobbler is a cheerful, flirtatious, gossip who enjoys a playful jibe and hates hot weather.
  • Perrine Vasse. A hard-handed, blunt, cranky farmer who works the terraces and reads the coming weather better than anyone in Beauvent.
  • “Old” Talis. A retired adventurer who settled in Beauvent to grow fat and happy. Talis is a reserved, scarred, relaxed soldier who tells stories the children half believe.
